Conflict between old and new

The swearing-in of 3 new ministers in the Pema Khandu led BJP government was marred by the violence. Supporters of BJP MLA from Ziro-Hapoli assembly constituency Tage Taki allegedly ransacked office of party president Tapir Gao. They were reportedly unhappy with the move of party not to induct Taki as minister. The name of Tage Taki as probable candidate for minister has been doing around in the political circle prior to induction of 3 new ministers. Majority of old BJP workers and MLAs were reportedly pushing for him. To his credit during the first 2 year of Congress regime Taki emerged as a vocal leader espousing the cause of BJP. He has been one of the bitter critics of the Congress government and regularly attacked them on the floor of assembly.

Therefore it is natural that BJP workers were rooting for him. Also this incident should alarm the top leaders of saffron party. The mass merger of so many Congress MLAs along with their supporters into party has deeply worried those workers who have been with the party during its most difficult time. If not properly addressed there are every chances of more conflict between 'old and new' ones. Party heavyweight like MoS Home Kiren Rijiju and state unit president Tapir Gao will have to play crucial role to placate the old cadres. These workers most of whom are rooted in the party ideology has been with BJP even when it was in wilderness for years. The next two year will be crucial in this regard. If BJP do not manage to balance between its original worker and new entrant, the party might pay heavy price in 2019 election.

Confusing criteria

Dear Editor,

I know no one can recruit better than service commission and from the last decade you are doing fine job which is highly appreciated. And this is the only hope where a fair and transparent recruitment is done.

The recent advertisement for the post of AAO(Assistant Audit Officer) by our lone service commission is a golden opportunity for every job seeker. But the eligibility criteria and mode of examination is quite confusing and not considerable for the said post.

If we look into the central and other state commission, the syllabus for the post of AAO is related to finance and accounts, economic and governance, auditing etc. And the eligibility criteria is B.Com, M.Com, MBA, ICWAI, ICSI etc which are related to Auditing. So is this the fair process to select and recruit the AAO? The process of recruitment is very different.

If the commission wants to keep the process then it should be open to all, as all unemployed youth deserved to try their best. Otherwise, change the syllabus or eligibility criteria so that right person is selected for the right job.

Yours,

Tingchan Wangpan

Don’t turn festival into business hub

Dear Editor,

There was a time when people were completely enamored with the feelings of festivity and bliss for the festival being celebrated. The smiles were righteous and original. Everyone imbibed and shared joy and compliments. And most importantly- the festival was festival of all.

But the sad part and fact is- today’s festival has lost its golden charm and the touch of originality. The originality has faded away to huge extent and hence the smiles and respects. It’s great to see many modern technologies being used to make the festival more colorful and glorious but it has also simultaneously turned into a huge business cum gambling ground and hence become festivals of the rich.

It is very disdaining to see the scene and arrangement of the local festivals of Arunachal now. You will find rows of stalls where drinks and deliciously cooked meat are sold. And you will also witness a row of gambling clubs which is locally termed as Janda Munda (DICE). The sad part is- drinks and meat sold are beyond the reach of commoners as its cost is sky touching. Only rich can afford it. For commoners, either sell a mithun to walk into the shops or stay away from the ground.  But more tragic and unhealthy practice is the Janda Munda. Poor, rich and even the educated scholars find the place more enriching and entertaining than anything else in the festival ground. Instead of spreading the message of joy and unity, these peoples dwindle more towards being a gamblers. Winners love the festival more whereas losers repent and sob somewhere in the heart. Is this a healthy practice?

The festivals has thus transformed into a business hub or money spinning show. The organizers should pre-decide certain rules to retain the motto of the festival. The festival where happiness sparks, traditions shine, rich culture of the tribe is showcased and  people of all groups can come, buy and share /feel the true spirit of the mega event must be ensured. The cost of items sold in the festival ambience should be checked and make it bearable by all.

We should never for forget that these different festivals of different tribes make our state more colorful. The traditions must be preserved. There should be more of festival related programs throughout the festive days than only making the final day the day of celebrations. These festivals are the silver linings of Arunachal.

Yours,

Biku Jaipu

Itanagar-Banderdewa highway

Dear Editor,

The Itanagar-Bander-dewa 4-lane highway seems involved in imbroglio because of compensation since the beginning.

All efforts of govt has gone in vain. However, finally the state cabinet has decided to consider 15 metres row in both sides of lane. This amicable decision also could appease land affected people as it is as per law itself. This landmark decision shows the govt’s intension to construct the long pending road in accordance with the wishes of the capital dwellers.

In his recent visit, Union Minister MoRTH Nitin Gadkari announcement to start 4-lane Itanagar -Banderdewa by March next is laudable. Work will start soon, hopefully. Hence, we the concern citizens would like to urge State govt not to show any leniency to any individuals or groups during execution of works.

Yours

A Citizen,

Naharlagun
